Spa Étiquette : from Stripping to Tipping

In the past few summer weeks I've been extremely booked with esthetic clients which made me see all kinds of personalities and things clients SHOULD NOT be doing!
Below is a guide to my clients on how to act and do things so your therapist can appreciate your business and would be pleased to re-book you! Otherwise, I am looking at my clock excited for you to leave!

1) Turn off your cellphone.
Honestly, you came to see me to relax and be in peace mind through body so why in the hell would you be answering texts or taking calls? Last week one of my clients told me that she wants to hold her cell which I said was fine but during my 'relaxing' facial she toke off her eye pads and started to text. At this point, not only does it show me you don't want to relax neither are you taking my hard work serious.

2) Arrive on time.
Ok I get it were all cute and I admit I love taking my time and when making reservations sometimes I'm late but listen up, I'm fully booked and have clients throughout my day! This is my profession and I have to run on time so I can properly sanitize my tools in time for the next client! Forget getting a full service if your more than 5 minutes late, like hell I'm gonna lose my next valuable client because a princess showed up 15 minutes late which I'm sorry is a quarter of your appointment so then your CUT!
If your a tardy person just aim to come early! Much appreciated!

3) Take a shower 24hrs prior to your appointment.
I hate when I walk into my treatment room and all I smell is your dirty feet, sweaty underarms, or especially during a wax smelly body parts ladies. Please out of courtesy take a shower, pop a mint in your mouth and please wear deoderant! I'm sure you wouldn't be pleased if i breathed in your face and all you smell is garlic or my BO.. Well same goes my way! Clean YO-Self!

4) Speak up and tell me what you want.
At each service I ask my client what they want to see out of today's service? More for maintenance , more relaxation.. Just tell me so I can tailor my service and please you since your paying me to! Also , I HATE when clients go and complain to the front staff about if I used too much pressure or you felt rushed (which I always ask during my service). So please clients make both our lives easier and don't say the pressure is ok if your holding your breath in pain! I am nice and genuine and really would like you to be happy so that I can be happy and so I can make proper notes for future visits!

5) Nudity & Comfort Level
So I will never judge you on if you'd like to keep undergarments on. However if you want the most out of your service it is usually best nude. You are covered at all times and never would I expose you. Yes even during a facial, I always mention I prefer you take your bra off but if you keep it on then slide the straps down. My style of facial is of European method and includes a lot of back ,neck and shoulder work. So keep in mind if you limit me to some areas then your not getting the fullof my quality service. However, especially new clients I would never judge if you kept you clothes on it just means you won't benefit as much of my service!

6) Getting up from your treatment.
I always say take your time and meet me outside the treatment room. Taking your time should not be more than 6 minutes! I most likely have a client after you and I only schedule 15 minutes in between clients. Not only do I have to change all the sheets, but I also have to sanitize my tools , sell you your products and sometimes even re-book you! So please don't hop off the table and hurt yourself but unless I tell you your my last client or that I have no client next then please take 2-5 mins to get the hell out my room!

7) How much to tip?
Keep in mind, like waitresses we work for a good base/sometimes commission but a big part of our income is tips unless we work in a medical environment. Aestheticians are beauty workers and therefore we usually will do a lot of labored work to get you beautiful. So as a thank you and appreciation token the usual tip is 15%-20% of your service. Now please use your logic and if your coming in for a brow wax, do us a favor and round up your tip to the lowest bill. There isnt something worst when a client reaching in their pockets and scrambling for like a loonie and a few quarters. NO just NO please , if you want to tip me a buck then just please don't tip me as it equals the same. However, saying so I would never deliver poor service if I knew you didn't tipped me since that is unprofessional. Which is also a reason I am a big fan of leaving my tip with the receptionist.

8) Cancelation and No Shows
24-48 hrs notice of canceling your appointment is appreciated. Most spas have a waiting list for clients and we will call other clients in order to fill up spaces. So not showing up on your appointment after a voicemail and email confirmation is nothing else but RUDE to your service provider! When we have no clients we make no money and this is my profession once again so if you want to keep me from charging you your full service then please give us notice. Of course there are exceptions but people use your logic, I'm a professional not your buddy!

So that sums up what we expect from you as a client in a quality establishment. My training and expertise is way too valuable to be wasting it on rude or arrogant clients. So do us all a favor and be a good client! Otherwise, I will make it impossible for you to reschedule with me! So don't try me!
Good respectful clients get the best service and beyond so keep this in mind! As you are in our hands after all!
Thanks for reading and see you in my treatment room soon!
